On the Town
O Darling, you look so somptueuse.
Your fashion sense is first page
news,
but then, you’ve always been très chic.
Let’s do the town – all night…all
week!
My watered silks? They’re from Paris;
the fan’s handmade. It’s from Capri.
The jewelry’s from Bendel’s boutique.
Let’s do the town – all night…all
week!
Let’s ditch this party; find the
hub.
Hey, Cabbie. To the 'Cotton Club'…
then maybe 'Stork.' We’re on a streak.
Let’s do the town – all night…all
week!
We’ll pop a cork and toast ‘til
dawn
at ‘21’ and then move on
for breakfast with our little
clique.
Let’s do the town – all night…all
week!

Notes: The form is Kyrielle. The poem was inspired by Sepia Saturday, whose prompt theme is 'Going Out." This was a real fun romp.
Your poem really captures this week's theme. Fun!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your poem and the mention of Bendel's. My sis-in-law often shopped at Bendels for presents. It was always a treat to receive a gift in their signature brown & white striped box with polka dot ribbon.
ReplyDeleteInspired! You capture that heady, going out mood perfectly. All night, all week -- love the refrain.
ReplyDeleteFun poem. Only one man on show - these days we might say these are ladies on the pull.
ReplyDeleteAll night, all week - ah those were the days. This is real nostalgia nicely captured in verse.
ReplyDeleteYou are amazing! I love your post and poem and painting.
DeleteThanks!

Great poem. I can imagine someone actually saying those words.
ReplyDeleteO.K., but I have to be home by 11.
ReplyDeleteFun indeed! And congratulations on yet another Limerick-Off Honorable Mention! Limerick of the Week 54 Thanks!
