I am what I am...

Showstopper

"Penny Trait’s my name,”
mumbled the drag queen.  “And yes,
I am what I am.”

###
Notes:  Three Word Wednesday's three prompt words today are drag, penetrate and mumble.  One of my favorite shows ever is La Cage Aux Folles.  I was actually lucky enough to see it way back when, when it was at the original Palace Theatre in NYC.  I've seen it several times since then.

Because of the prompt words, this 5/7/5 haiku practically 'Broadway-belted' itself at me to sing...errrrrm...write it.

For your health and well-being...

A Soupçon of Cure

Gaspacho:
Viable treatment;
mutes intestinal rumblings.

###
Notes:  Three Word Wednesday provided today's prompt of 'gasp, mute and viable.'  The form is, once again, Hay[Na]Ku.  I couldn't resist, even though I am well aware of the fact that puns are the lowest form of humor - especially the bathroom kind.  Oh well.

Sonnet CI - Lurking is the New Normal

O truant Muse what shall be thy amends
For thy neglect of truth just ain’t normal!
Both truth and beauty on my love depends;
But I need your help to write poems formal.
Make answer Muse: can we not then return…
'Truth needs no colour, and beauty’s not fixed;
Else, who could write Ode to a Grecian Urn;
But best is best, if never intermixed?
Because…what is normal and what is not?
Anymore, I can’t say with certainty.
Sounds to me like a ‘word’ Gordian knot,
which leaves me frustrated, I guarantee.
So, c’mon, Muse; let’s both get back to work:
In the background, kindly cease to just lurk.

###

Notes:  The first poem is a 5/7/5 Haiku.  It was inspired by the prompt from 3 Word Wednesday: appear/dose/pierce.  The second and third poems were based on Robert Lee Brewer's Poetic Asides prompt of 'Normal/Return to Normal.  The second poem is a 5/7/5 Haiku and the third is a parody of one of Shakespeare's Sonnets.

*Schlimmbesserung - per Worthless Word for the Day:  making something worse through an attempt to make it better.

Told ya I'd be back to being quirky today.  ☼

More Shadormas

I had such fun with the Shadorma form yesterday, that I decided to do it again.  Today's prompt responses are brought to you by Poetic Asides (Odd Relationship), Three Word Wednesday (illusion, tragic and evident), Big Tent Poetry (write a poem about being small) and We Write Poems (write a poem about writing poems.)

Learning How To Do Magic Tricks

It’s tragic
(well, it is if you’re
a budding
magician):
no illusion should ever
be too evident.

Mime Me

He was stuck
behind unseen walls.
Silently
he made space
become a fortress.  I placed
a tip in his hat.

Uncle Jules

Uncle Jules
was a funny guy
who would ‘steal’
our noses
‘til we couldn’t stop giggling…
then he’d ‘put’ them back.

###

Date From Hell

He bore an
extraordinary
resemblance
to Hitler.
(No lie.)  He was pompous, too.
Great next-day story.

Oddly Purrfect Artist Model

On our steps
sat a ginger cat.
She stayed still
in cat-pose
and let me draw her.  She purred,
drank some milk…and left.

Small Shadorma

I am small:
not like ‘Haiku-small’
or even
‘Tanka-Small’
but still…I’m good for those with
small attention spans.
