The Touchy Tribe of Poets

The Touchy Tribe of Poets

"I put up with a great deal to pacify the touchy tribe of poets." ~Horace

So everyone’s a critic, eh?
You write your heart out; then they say,
“Your meter’s off.  The rhyme is slant.”
It’s poetry! I won’t recant.

So then you try to pen free verse.
The touchy ones cry, “Yuck!  It’s worse
than when you wrote in rhyme.”  You rant…
It’s poetry! I won’t recant.

So then you say, “Well, I’ll write prose!”
but when you try to (arrggggh!) compose,
a poem blooms just like a plant.
It’s poetry! I won’t recant.

So everyone’s a critic, eh?
It’s poetry! I won’t recant.

###

Notes:  Yep - once again, I felt compelled to write a Kyrielle Sonnet.  (And I won't recant either!)  But anyway, in case you were wondering, the inspiration, this time, came from the word prompt of 'tribe' courtesy of Sunday Scribblings.

  2. Love it, I write and then sometimes wait on pins and needles for the critics. But I won't recant, because the more I read my poem, the more I, like it

  3. Nicely written.

It's your poem. Stuff the critics. Who are you writing for anyway?

  5. I would rather write well and have no comments than write for applause and hate the comments. Never recant!

  13. Christine - good for you! Never recant! What you create is just an extension of yourself, and that's all good!

  14. J. Cosmo - as a rule, I really do write for myself. But, since I post on my blog (and other places too) obviously I am trying to get noticed.

Someone (a writer) one time told me that I writer writes to be read. I think that's true.

But I also agree - stuff the critics!
