Catching Up

Okay...I admit it.  I'm a little bit behind on my poeming right now, but that's because yesterday was such a busy day!  After taking care of some relatively important stuff in the morning, we (meaning, my husband, kids and I) went into NYC for dinner and a show.  We saw Wicked, which was (wait for it...wait for it...) wicked awesome!

Ah...I couldn't resist that little bit of wickedness!  (Defying gravity...♪♫♪♫...)

Anyway, I penned a few poems this AM, in order to try and catch up (as the title of today's post obviously suggests.)  The first two poems, each a 5/7/5 haiku, were inspired by prompts by SiS/Few Miles.  The third poem was created based on the Three Word Wednesday prompt: 'dare, practical and essence.'

Her voice had a lilt
even though she sang off-key.
“Thanks, very much.  Next!”

What Her Cat Is Thinking

Look at her sleeping.
She should get up and feed me.
I think I shall pounce.

 Essence, Dare and Practical

So then, dare I say
the essence of rules syntactical
are anymore, not quite practical
with texting today?

  1. RJ, I love "Essence dare and practical" my husband and I were
    just discussing this today.

btw (ha!) Are you a New Yorker?
I am from the Manhattan and lived
for quite a few years on Long Island.

  2. Thanks, Pamela! Actually, I was born and raised in Philadelphia, but I lived in New York for quite a number of years before moving to New Jersey. So cool that you are from New York!

  3. RJ, leave it to you to get all three words into one funny, concise, TRUE poem! Loved this. Hey, y'all, I was a Manhattanite for years, Upper Left Side!

  4. "What Her Cat Is Thinking"

This tickles me so ... I have 8 of them, and I KNOW they are thinking these exact sentiments when I ignore their 3 am wake-up-call to entice me to get up and feed them early. Thanks for the lift!

  5. Hi, I liked all three but, being a cat person, that one really gelled with me. Did you really just 'toss them off' AM. WOW!

  8. Loved them all. The first two for making us laugh and the last for echoing our frustration at getting older!

  11. they are fabulous RJ, but tell me, do all cats do it?

I thought only mine are expert in conveying their inconvenient messages precisely.

  14. Old Altonian - thanks! and yep, I did. For my 'humorous' poetry, that's how I usually do it. I ♥ wordplay, so I just go with an idea and see what I come up with.
