Seven Girls

Seven Girls

Faded background, long ringlet curls:
sign of the times from yesteryear.
The worn faces of seven girls
wearing vague smiles, mostly austere.
Updated background, tattoos and swirls:
sign of the times from modern day.
Made-up faces of seven girls:
wholly different kind of display.
Times have changed; and this resonates.  It’s true…
each photograph could capture me or you.

Notes:  The prompt from Sepia Saturday was to either use their vintage photograph (a marvelous one which I still might use!) or use one of our own.  Inspired by some of the work of Bob Scotney, I decided to do a contrast(ish) poem, using an old and a new photograph which I paired with the poetic form Sonnetina Tre.

Thanks for visiting.  My wish for tonight?  Stay dry, warm and safe.

  1. Wow, what a great contrast, something Im aware of, but the writing and putting these together really shows you such a change, DRASTIC change in the times and photography. Love this, thanks for sharing

  2. I'm flattered to get a mention in your Notes.
Long hair seems to be the rage with a lot of girls, my daughter included when she was their age. Her scrunchie had to match what else she was wearing even on an Outward Bound course.

  3. Fascinating contrast and a most enjoyable poem as well. Beneath all those surface differences one wonders how different the two sets of girls really are. Great to see you on Sepia Saturday, please join in again.

  4. This was so much fun! Love your poem too. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

  5. A clever idea using the contrasting photos, which are appealing in their own right. That’s a verse form I don’t know (only an amateur) but I’m off to find out more. Thank you.

  6. How very creative. the ladies in the second photo certainly have bigger smiles, although I wouldn't make the assumption that they are happier.

  7. I agree with Christine, the first are younger but show more maturity.

  8. An excellent take on the prompt, Randi, and I think we're both in the second photo, LOL. I have a sepia pic of my mother, Charlotte, a bit younger, with a Little Iodine bow in her hair. Her pic is on my wall, and we exchange smiles daily.

Come to think of it, you and I would probably be mooning in OUR picture, ha ha ha.. Amy
