Stamp Act

Legend says…

King George the Fifth collected stamps ~
about this, he was avid,
and once a rare stamp caught his eye,
he simply had to havid.

One day, The Times’ headline read
that fourteen hundred pounds
was paid for just one single stamp.
“Gah!  Lunacy abounds!”

did cry the Secretary of
His Majesty, the King.
“I cannot quite imagine why
some damned fool’d do this thing.”

The King looked at his humble aide
and said, “I know, and you’ll
be satisfied to learn this fact:
Sir, I am that damned fool.”
